Hi, I’m Laura Conaway!
I sat in an elementary school assembly enamored by the author’s presentation as he shared what it was like to create a story. When he let us write our own story, I thought I’d discovered the largest treasure chest of gold!
Words hold meaning and power when they are strung together strategically and that was enough for me to fall in love. To this day, I don’t remember which author came to our school, but I was able to see that writing books was possible!
From penning my very first story, The Three Little Frogs and the Mean Moray Eel to writing play scripts with friends and acting them out, I’ve always been fascinated with imagining something and bringing it to life. I’m happy to say my writing skills have improved since that first story and the wise decision was made to put my acting ambitions on hold.
Fast forward to college, and I graduated with a degree in Library and English education and Professional Writing. Thanks to a novel writing class in college when the world shut down in 2020, I had time to complete my first full length fiction manuscript.
Then, for a season, I worked as a middle school librarian, surrounded by books all day. My second novel, Silencing the Witness, was actually inspired by my students.
Shortly after, I embarked on an adventure with other aspiring authors and met Jefferson Bethke for an incredible retreat where we learned the ins and out of pursuing publication.
A few weeks later, I landed my first book contract through a blind audition contest with Sunrise Publishing! My second book contract came through another contest with Love Inspired Suspense, a division of Harper Collins.
I’ve now written fora variety of publications both fiction and nonfiction, including Live Original by Sadie Robertson Huff, and The Daily Grace Co.
I never imagined the journey I would embark on while pursuing this writing dream.
No matter where this journey leads, I couldn’t do it without two things.

Laura’s Fun Facts
I love to adventure outdoors.
Minus all the bugs and creepy crawlies. Okay, that might not be possible, but getting a front row seat to God’s creation is always a stunning experience.
I use the word y’all way too much. Considering I’m not from the south, and I don’t drink sweet tea. But hats and hay bales are fun, so I make it work. One day I’ll have a southern character in a story.
My favorite Disney princess is Belle.
She’s a lover of books, independence, and fighting for what she believes in. It was so fun to do this creative photoshoot and live out my princess dream. Huge shout out to my friend Kassidy Leigh Photography for nailing the vision!
