How to write an Inspirational fiction novel
Fellow writers, have you struggled coming up with ideas for stories, creating characters, or developing a plot?
There are so many ways to find inspiration, ranging from a walk in nature, to taking some alone time, or having a conversation with someone.
An idea can pop up anywhere, but how often do you take inspiration from the Bible–the Greatest Story ever written? This is God’s story to us. This is how He talks to us. Why not use it and have Him guide you on what to write?
Maybe that looks like talking with a friend about a Scripture passage that’s been especially impactful in your life. Or maybe it’s taking personal time with God and noticing a specific theme or idea that resonates with you that God continues to bring up in Scripture or your life.
Scripture has a way of speaking into our lives, even though it was written thousands of years ago.
David praised God through the good times, lamented when he was on the run from Saul, but relied on God to carry him through it all.
Moses didn’t find himself worthy of leading God’s people out of Egypt and even made excuses as to why he shouldn’t be the one. Yet, he discovered God who can do all things and keeps His promises time and time again.
Naomi lost her husband and sons, which led her into a deep depression. However, God kept her daughter-in-law, Ruth, with her to draw her out and provide a new family.
Has God been speaking to you through one of the many stories that shows His faithfulness?
Maybe He’s showing you a place you can grow in or telling you something you need to hear.
Weave Scripture into Your Story
Have you ever considered that maybe a character in your inspirational fiction novel could go through a similar experience? There may be an event or situation that leads to self-doubt like Moses, or you’re lamenting like David, or, maybe, you have hit rock bottom like Naomi.
Just as God’s Word is a source of encouragement, comfort, and hope for us, it can be the same for our characters and those who read the book.
No matter where you are in the writing process, it can be difficult to navigate the ins and outs of the story and how to finish it. If you’re not sure where to go next with your story, you’ve come to the right place!
